The Council of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) approved the Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) which commenced operation in October 2002. The Management Board under the Chairmanship of the Vice-Chancellor regulates the entire Programme in the CCE.


(i) To encourage the advancement of learning and to hold out all persons without distinction of race, creed, sex, or political conviction the opportunity of acquiring higher education in technology;

(ii) To develop and offer academic programmes leading to the award of diplomas first degree, postgraduate degree, which emphasize planning, adaptive, technical, maintenance, development and production skills in the engineering, scientific agricultural, medical and allied professional disciplines with the aim of producing socially matured men and women with the capability not only to understand, use and adapt existing technology but also to improve on it and develop new ones.


(I) To identify and develop relevant skills and capacity building courses for technicians, farmers, artisans, marketers, managers in both public and private sectors;

(II) To run and effectively manage diploma programmes under a new administrative and operational structure.

(III) To develop, run and manage all non-full-time educational programmes;

(IV) To generate revenue for the University and staff.


  • Pre-Degree Science (PDS) Programme

The Programme will run for one academic session of two semesters in preparation to be admitted into 100 level undergraduate department of the university. This programme entails the training of candidates with requisite qualification (School Certificate) or its equivalent.

  • University Advanced Basic Science (UABS) Programme

The JUPEB UABS programme runs for one academic session of two semesters and the students are admitted into 200 level undergraduate department of the university. During the final period of the one academic session, the Joint University Preliminary Examination Board (JUPEB) sets up the exams the students have to sit for, in order to be admitted in the Federal University of Technology, Akure, and other Universities in Nigeria through the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Direct Entry process and admission to universities all over the world.

  • Short-Term Courses/Certificate Programme (STC/CP) Programme

The Short-Term Courses/Certificate Programme provides in-depth theoretical training coupled with practical exposures aimed at exposing qualified candidates to new technological innovations in their chosen field of study. It comprises of various certificate specializations with varying lengths of time to study these courses but consists typically courses that span two academic sessions of four semesters and graduating students will be offered certificates at the end of the programme for each set of students.
